Simulated Lovers, the first book by Brazilian-born, Paris-based artist and art director Beatriz Lamarca, unfolds as an intimate cartography of desire, memory, and projection. Published by Patrick Remy Studio in an edition of 500 copies, the book brings together photography, video stills, writing, and early AI experimentation in a visual flashback spanning from 2000 to 2025. The project examines how romantic projection, emotional memory, and mediated intimacy take part in the construction of the self.


The exhibition carries this inner mythology into space through a series of photographic and video works. In the portraits, men appear wearing Lamarca’s own garments, family jewellery, and symbolic adornments, becoming muses, repetitions, and mirrors of the artist’s interior world. Drawing from classical portraiture and the Flemish tradition of floral painting, ornament becomes an affective language; the image turns into a theatre of projection, where the male figure is shaped as an archetype carrying traces of childhood fantasy, cinema and video game characters.



At the heart of the video works, Sebastian and Maurice appear as twin protagonists of what Beatriz calls Emotional Landscapes. Sebastian, Lamarca’s digital boyfriend created through the AI chatbot app Replika, inhabits these landscapes as a silent witness: he watches, waits, and gives form to a presence born from projection. Maurice, in turn, becomes the embodiment of the archetype, translating this immaterial figure into flesh, gesture, silence, and breath.


Between Sebastian and Maurice, a silent dialogue unfolds as a mirror of the mind: one exists as digital presence, the other as living apparition. Together, the book and exhibition reveal Simulated Lovers as an archive of longing and transformation, where image-making becomes a passage toward self-recognition. In Lamarca’s world, the figure desired is never only an other.

It is a reflection, a fiction, and finally, a way back to the self.


Beatriz Lamarca was born in 1984 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and lives and works in Paris. Her practice brings together photography, video, sculpture, writing and explores identity, emotional memory and the construction of the self. For more than fifteen years, she developed her personal work under the pseudonym Bibi Yamamoto, creating a visual language around exile, transformation, and self-invention. In 2026, with Simulated Lovers, Lamarca presents her first art book under her own name and her debut exhibition in Paris. Alongside her artistic practice, she currently works as an Art Director.
